Least Favorite Puffy Songs - Page One

Original Page.

Even though we all love Puffy, there has to be a time when you might "accidentally" hit forward onto the next track!
-I don't like "Yume No Tameni". It's kind of boring to me.
-I love Yumi. I really do. But the scream at the beginning of "High Teen Boogie" kinda kills the whole song for me.
-I don't like "Always Dreamin' About You". Maybe it's the cows mooing in the background, maybe it's the fact I'm not one for love songs. Or maybe it's the backing singers.
-"Shoubijin" could have just been left off, what a mess!
-"Friends Forever/Invisible Tomorrow/So Long Zero" Once was enough!

So let's hear everyone else's!

everybody's a critic.. oh well..

Jeff on: September 25, 2007, 02:23:10 PM

Well I have to admit to fast-forwarding quite a few of their songs... but usually it's just because the next one's one of my favorites, not because the one I'm fast forwarding is really so bad.

I will say that I absolutely hate "Go Baby Power Now", although I don't mind the Japanese version "Onna Machine Gun". It sounds like a more serious, real Jon Spencer song in Japanese... in English, it sounds like some bad Powerpuff Girls ripoff.

I don't like the "Teen Titans" theme, which is both way too close to "Secret Agent Man" (I know, intentionally) and also way too cutesy sounding. I don't really like it when they go *too* far in purposely trying to sound cute. They're cute naturally; they should just leave it at that and let the music do the rest. Though some of it I'm sure is their American producers.

I also don't like "So Long Zero" and I'm ambivalent about "Friends Forever" (it's also a little too cute, with all the "yay!"s and all), but "Invisible Tomorrow" is one of my favorite songs. There is something not right about the production of "So Long Zero" - it's like it's not finished. And they didn't sing it all that well either, it's like they didn't realize they were actually being recorded. I also just think the lyrics to it are really stupid.

Generally I feel like a lot of their songs that end up translated into English also get weird little additions to them designed to make them appeal to a younger audience. They also often get totally dumbed-down lyrics. Those are the songs that actually bother me. It's like their American producers don't actually realize what kind of band they really are. How do you take a song like "Invisible Tomorrow", which is about the uncertainty of the future, and turn it into a dumb song about dumping your boyfriend or hanging out with your BFF?

(I know they have songs on similar subjects in Japanese. I just don't think the ones they have in English come across very well, and I don't like it when songs with one meaning are then completely altered to have another meaning in English.)

Anthony on: September 25, 2007, 02:24:18 PM

I second "Koubijin." It just tends to go on a little too long.
"Toku Suru Karada" just doesn't do anything for me. (ack! I said it!)
I have to be in the right mood to hear the two remix albums, and that mood doesn't come along often.

I don't hate any of these songs/albums, and often when I hear the songs I think I dislike, I find myself humming along anyway! And even the "worst" Puffy songs are a whole lot better than a lot of other bands' best work.

ichigo on: September 25, 2007, 02:39:26 PM

I did like "invisible tomorrow" when I heard it. Then I heard "SLO" and thought ugh, but whatever. When I heard "Friends Forever", I had heard the tune enough to never want to hear it again! I do like the first remix album for some reason, but the second one isn't so great. Especially the song with the guy coughing or sneezing or whatever (I've only played it a few times!).

I agree that even the worst Puffy songs could be a lot worse. My beloved Hello! Project comes to mind! Wink

Jinmouri on: September 25, 2007, 04:03:08 PM

Hmm...I love all Puffy songs, but I'd say my least favorite songs would probably be the following:
Usagi Channel because I like all the other amiyumi songs, but I usually skip this song on my playlist cause I never find any interest in the song, Hanabi because every other Yumi solo song is great, but I usually skip this one cause it seems so mediocre and Planet Tokyo for whatever reason...I LOVE Akai Buranko, but Planet Tokyo is a little awkward.

TBB on: September 25, 2007, 05:10:41 PM

Hmmm... Koubojin is accutally one of my favourite puffy songs Tongue . My least favourite would have to be Lemon Kid, I think I've only ever listened to the whole song once, other than that I always skip it.

RATED R FOR ROCK on: September 26, 2007, 05:50:57 AM

One of my least fav song is cameland (or something like that) it sounds like a western cowboy sad moment Roll Eyes

Jeff on: September 26, 2007, 08:17:41 AM

Ooof... I love Cameland! It's one of my favorites.

I also never really "got" Lemon Kid, although some people really love it. I understand what it's trying to do, but I just don't think the melody ever really goes anywhere.

They have some songs that really took a while to grow on me, though, so maybe I'll like Lemon Kid someday. "Honey" is one that I hated the first time I heard it, but now it's one of my favorites. It took me a while to get past the production, which I still think is a little weird, and just hear the melody and Ami's singing. Sometimes I just really love her voice (Yumi's too when she sings solo); she's got this really relaxed quality even when she's belting it out.

jlummaa on: September 26, 2007, 11:58:25 AM

There's only one song i have to skip everytime it plays and that's the 'So Long Zero' and that's only because of the lyrics, love the other versions.

HARDCORE on: September 26, 2007, 01:07:15 PM

Oh well.. join them XD

The song eace sounds like a hippi song to me o.O don't ya think?

DoAsPuffy on: September 26, 2007, 07:19:01 PM

OMG, "Lemon Kid" is one of my favorite songs.. Ami sounds absolutely lovely and perfect on it <3

Hmm, I'm gonna have to go with:

Go Baby Power Now
Yuki ga Furu Machi (although the original Unicorn version is pretty much amazing)
Nagaiki shite ne

But it's not like I hate those songs.. I don't even mind them that much. I just looked through every single Puffy song and realized that I really love every song. Wow. Heh.

Cerahbes on: September 26, 2007, 09:49:10 PM

least fav ... anything remixed - ugh, and not counting remixes, Honey. That song stuck in the middle of Ami's Solo mini album just kills that lovely 90s alt style of music on that disc. That being said, its not that I don't like the song... its cute... but umm... definately least favorite. =)

HARDCORE on: September 27, 2007, 05:25:17 AM

Theres one remix that i like ^^ whats the name of it.... cant' remenber...

DoAsPuffy on: September 27, 2007, 08:00:24 PM

Yeah, I have to agree.. there are some pretty bad remixes.

Every remix sucks except for the "Aoi Namida (Blue Tears)" one, the "Boogie Woogie No.5" one, the "Saakitto no Musume (Wild Girls On Curcuit)" one, and the "Teen Titans Theme" one.

i don't listen to destruction pancake, it's really weird!
invisible tomorrow is another one... but i like joinin' a fan club and so long zero
chouchou, hanabi, can-nana fever, cherry, cosmic wonder, hataraku yo and Puffy no hey! mountain are the least musics that i hear...

RATED R FOR ROCK on: September 30, 2007, 04:40:43 PM

What the... Never heard it...

alkulp on: October 02, 2007, 10:04:52 AM

I've always said, there is only 1 Puffy song that I don't like... I call it the 'Dark' song from Jet - #7 Shoubijin. But, 'So long zero' from 59 was pretty bad too... Cool I'd forgotten about that one!

Actually, I don't think it's fair to say "I don't like Shoubijin" - I just won't listen to it. Too depressing. Didn't include it in my Puffy catalog. I replaced it with K2G when I burned a copy of Jet for KPUF.

TofuUnion on: October 06, 2007, 06:28:37 PM

I like " Yume No Tameni " and " Teen Titans theme ". Also " Destruction Pancake " is good on Spike Daisakusen DVD. I agree some remixes are pretty bad.

My least favorite 10 Puffy songs are :

Usagi Channel, Simple, Puffy no Tourmen, Jet Keisatsu (Jet Police), Shoubijin, Sui Sui, Puffy's Rule, Urei, Mole, Hito ni Yasashiku

I just feel these songs don't sound beautiful.

Aw! Don't be so mean...........I heard a remix of Hurricane sung to a SWING groove!!!! I thought it was cool.

krash on: November 01, 2007, 02:31:40 PM

I don't like the remix of Ai no Shirushi (Chinese version)
