PUFFY's band?

Original Page.

TBB on: October 02, 2007, 05:10:52 PM

Does PUFFY still have the same band that they've always had, because for the past year I havent seen their normal band when they perform at the ROCK IN JAPAN FES or on any TV appearances. Is that just because they're a touring band or have they got a completly new band alltogether?

Jeff on: October 02, 2007, 05:21:32 PM

Nope, new band. There have been various rumors around the net about why various members quit, mostly centering around their decline in popularity, but I don't know if I really believe that.

The last performance I saw of them, about a month ago on Japanese TV, they had Enazo playing with them, so that's cool if she's a permanent member now. Kinda think she was just helping out, though, as she's done before.

Well, if the ROCK IN JAPAN FES footage and honeycreeper credits are any indication, it's not all new members in the touring band -- Furuta Takashi (the drummer) and Kinoshita Hiroharu (the bassist) are still around.

I think it's pretty amazing that, for the most part, Puffy managed to keep the same touring band together for nearly 10 years. Especially considering the touring band members weren't actually together in a band at all outside of working with Puffy (at least to my knowledge).

Furuta Takashi was not in the band when they played on NHK about a month ago, and he's not in this photo from Sweet Love Shower last month, so I was worried he was gone. I'll be happy if he's not.

The guitarists are definitely not the same, though.

Aww I liked the old band. But Enazo's cool, I think she is permanent now because I've seen her in almost all their performances recently.

Well, I've seen past TV peformances where the backing band was a bunch of random dudes and not Puffy's backing band, so that's not unusual.

While the drummer for the Sweet Love Shower performance doesn't appear to be Furuta, the drum kit being used is a) the same brand that Furuta uses, b) set up prety much identically as Furuta's, and c) has a design motif similar to drum kits Furuta has used in the past. So I'd say that's either Furuta's drum kit, or one remarkably similar to it. Maybe he was sick that day or something.

The bassist at Sweet Love Shower is definitely Kinoshita Hiroharu, though.

Furuta was not there in PUFFY's live performances during September, but I heard it was temporary. He was just not available at that time.

I suppose the PUFFY fans in the audience felt sad about his absence, but I don't think they were totally unhappy, because they could enjoy a rare opportunity.
They could witness Kawanishi Jet from JET-KI, ex-Unicorm drummer, playing a Unicorn tune (Hataraku Otoko) once again, only not as Unicorn but for PUFFY!

Tonight I've watched a TV Live Show " Songs (NHK) " in Japan, in which Puffy performed following songs !

1. Nagisa ni Matsuwaru etc
2. Hi Hi
3. Korega Watashi no Ikirumichi
4. Kuchibiru Motion
5. Circuit no Musume
6. Asia no Junshin
7. Oriental Diamond

Band Members : Dr. Takashi Furuta, Bass. Hiroharu Kinoshita, Gt. Shigeo Naka, Gt. Fujio Yanagisawa, Key. Shunsuke Watanabe
The live was after all, Debut Song + 3 No.1 Songs + Hi Hi (Puffy AmiYumi Show) + 2 Songs from Honeycreeper. Performance itself was very stable and enjoyable.

That sounds awesome! That would have been very cool to see, I'm sure.

As for the band, it looks like they've got a new guitarist and keyboardist - Furuta, Kinoshita and Yanagisawa are all old standbys.

Yanigasawa was not on their last US tour, although he seems to be on the Tour! Puffy! Tour! 10 Final DVD (just looking at my own screengrabs), which was filmed just beforehand, so maybe he's in and out. He's got his own band so maybe he's just not always available, like Furuta.

When I saw them in 2006, they had 2 new guitarists and a new keyboardist, at least (I don't recall the bassist and he's not identifiable in any of my pics).

I don't think whoever their new guitarist is (the one who's not Fumio) is permanent... like I said, Enazo took that spot just a month or so ago, and there was someone else on the 2006 tour. Seems like they're just rotating through whoever's available at any given time.

btw that TV performance should be on TV Japan tonight - I've got my DVR set. Smiley

Phew.. I was scared that Furuta was gone! lol. He's seriously my favorite Puffy band member.. I remember at the first Puffy concert I went to, he came out into the lobby while I was waiting in line outside, and I was pounding on the glass doors, and he turned and waved to me, bahahaha. Good times.

AH, that live show sounds like it was awesome! I want to see it.. :[ *wonder if it's on jpopsuki...* =X

On their SPLURGE! SPLURGE! SPLURGE! Tour last year, they still had Furuta and Kinoshita were there, but the rest of the band were new, which I found really scary, haha! Cool

Yeah, Furuta is so cool. The very first time I saw PUFFY live, I was in line, and he came from the alley and walked past us to go back into the venue, and I was FREAKING OUT!!! Hahaha, I shouted "Konnichiwa, Furuta-san!!!" and he actully stopped and turned around and smiled, and said something in Japanese and waved. I think it started with an "h". It might've been "hajimashita" or whatever the phrase is. Haha, my Japanese is horrible. But unfortunately I forgot to take a picture because I was in shock. THAT WOULD'VE BEEN AWESOME!!!!! Now I'm determined to meet him again and get his picture (as well as PUFFY, of course! Roll Eyes ).
